Let's See That Again! (Planeswalker Edition)

Since I'm doing this sort of series, I figured it'd be cool to look at the planeswalker characters that have been printed, and come up with some characters that should have a new planeswalker version printed for them.

You know, instead of all the versions of Ajani, Jace, Liliana, Chandra, and Garruk we have running around.

Elspeth Tirel

Elspeth, Knight-Errant  Elspeth Tirel

Elspeth has a really awesome first card, and a pretty cool second card. I just wonder what else we could wind up with on a third card...

Tamiyo

Tamiyo, the Moon Sage

Tamiyo, like Elspeth, had her first card printed with her first name and a title. We can only hope for a second card with her last name on it sometime in another year or two. She's pretty good, and it'd be interesting to see what else she is capable of... And as a blue planeswalker, she's the only one besides Jace who has only been printed as blue (Tezzeret has a blue/black version).

Sorin Markov

Sorin Markov  Sorin, Lord of Innistrad

Sorin is the only planeswalker other than Liliana who had a card that was only black. I like Sorin, Lord of Innistrad best out of both of them, but hey, another Sorin could be cool.

Koth

Koth of the Hammer

Koth, like Tamiyo and Elspeth, was not originally printed with a last name. Unless he just doesn't have one, but I have a feeling he does. (Note, I haven't ready any of the novels or anything, wish I had of course, but if you know if any of these planeswalkers do or do not have last names, please comment and let me know). Koth is pretty cool. He deals mostly in mana and what mountains are capable of, so it'd be cool to see what else can be done. Oh, and Tibalt could have been included here, but everyone hated his first version, so he may not show up again, but I have my own thoughts on Tibalt.

I know we're talking about Koth here, but Tibalt, story-wise, just became a planeswalker, so theoretically, he'd get better as time went on and more versions of him were printed. I'd take it or leave it, but as a non-Chandra red planeswalker, Koth is definitely more awesome than Tibalt.

Nissa Revane

Nissa Revane

Elves should come back. Hell, we should visit Zendikar again, in a few more years (I guess 10-ish years?). Nissa does tribal and she does it well. People who use her love her. But if I read the story aspect of her (probably on the Wizard's website), then she's been secretly experimenting with black magic. Kind of like the elves from Lorwyn/Shadowmoor. Since their tribal colors were black and green. So it'd be cool to see her in a black/green planeswalker. But... we already have Vraska and kind of Garruk for that now, so maybe another mono green version? Or maybe a mono black of her? (That idea is from the whole Mikaeus, the Lunarch and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed legends from Innistrad and Dark Ascension. She could possibly get corrupted by the black magic and no longer be a green planeswalker).

Karn

Karn Liberated

Now, I don't think this guy has a last name. Regardless, he is the only colorless planeswalker, and therefore fills the spot. Plus, I'm pretty sure he's the easiest way to actually win by using Battle of Wits...

Sarkhan Vol

Sarkhan Vol  Sarkhan the Mad

Sarkhan is a planeswalker who has shown up twice in multicolored cards only. And he's been missing for three blocks. Plus... DRAGONS. *cough* Sorry about that. Sarkhan Vol is pretty cool, and he's just been reprinted with Elspeth, Knight Errant in Modern Masters, so that must mean something. Sarkhan does a bit of Tribal like Nissa, but Nissa does more tribal. Sarkhan Vol doesn't have to be just dragons, especially with the ultimate on any planeswalker being hard to get to...

I don't know, just some food for thought. If you took all five colors, colorless, and multicolored, which planeswalkers would you want  to see done in a new card? (Note, Kiora Atul would totally make my multicolored choice if she was already a card, as long as she was good. She isn't already a planeswalker with a card, and I think many of us wish she was...) Maybe you can let me know in the description. And if possible, try not to consider the original five (Ajani, Jace, Liliana, Chandra, Garruk). They've had new cards often enough.

  1. in my opinion from all the foreshadowing w jace planeswalking to Zendikar in the secretist part 3. and with gideon coming from zendikar wit in a state of major emergency and with the popukarity of the block. Then going in the pattern of new plane old plane after theros we will go back to zendikar.

    1. I have to agree with the pattern. It does seem fairly obvious that we have a new plane, then we return, but Zendikar so soon? Mirrodin Block was 2003 to 2004 while Scars of Mirrodin Block was 2010 to 2011. Ravnica Block was 2005 to 2006, while RTR was 2012 to 2013. It looks like a 7 year pattern. Maybe you're right and we will return to Zendikar, but after Theros block, I'm sort of expecting maybe a return to Lorwyn/Shadowmoor? 2007 to 2008 was the original with the next return year possibly being 2014 to 2015. I don't know... Although, if I remember correctly what Mark Rosewater said, returning to Zendikar is a very popular wish among Magic players... I just hope the lands are full art when we return to Zendikar...
