Commander Mondays (9/16/13): Prime Speaker Zegana

So with this deck, the ultimate goal is to pull heavily from the Evolve mechanic as well as include a pretty good amount of green pump spells and blue counter spells. There will probably be some overlap with the Golgari Commander deck from two weeks ago, because ther were some pretty good green spells included that I plan to use in this deck.

So without further ado, let's check out Prime Speaker Zegana.

With this deck, I actually had trouble narrowing down what I wanted to drop into the deck. I wound up sacrificing having Alchemist's Refuge (which I didn't find much I felt would be better played during your opponents' turns) and a small tokens theme I was trying to drop in. Instead, we have a lot of the hybrid/multicolored spells and cards with Simic watermarks.

Firstly, we have a small Ooze theme.

The Oozes get counters which can then be removed to add Ooze tokens. We can also use Chronomaton to give counters to use for Ooze Flux.

Then we have a Hydra theme for even more counters.

Kalonian Hydra Primordial Hydra Vastwood Hydra

Kalonian Hydra is especially important in this deck. I mean, it doubles the number of counters on your creatures each time it attacks. That is very important for Simic's keyword Evolve (which adds counters to creatures). So this Hydra theme is kind of important as it can help boost the other cards or be a huge creature to throw at your opponents.

Most of this deck revolves around pumping creatures and adding counters. I feel this definitely embodies what Simic is all about.
