Journey Into Nyx Prerelease at Red Battle Games LLC

Once again I found myself going to a single prerelease event. Unlike last time, there was no FTV:20 door prize or anything of the sort. However, if you played at two, your second would cost $20 as opposed to the $25 of the first.

I payed for a friend of mine to play using a white box and I chose green. My deck came out excellent and I only lost my first match, but the loss was a 1-2 loss with a close game during one of my losses. I didn't record what I got out of each pack, but my seeded pack did have an Eidolon of Blossoms and a Journey Into Nyx pack gave me a Kruphix.

I know I'm a bit of a hypocrite for saying I'd never use Golden Hind or some of these other cards (I said this during last week's preview articles). I have to say in Limited it was pretty useful, being able to accelerate my mana and, if necessary, block something.

Humbler of Mortals  Heroes' Bane  Archetype of Endurance

The real synergy of this deck came out of Kruphix, Humbler of Mortals, Archetype of Endurance, and Heroes' Bane. In one game alone, I was capable of bringing my Heroes' Bane up to a 128/128 (and more, but I got lazy and ran out of dice). using Kruphix for extra mana, as well as allowing everything to be hexproof. At that point I had no flyers, but I had plenty of ground support, and I was losing one life each turn from an Akroan Skyguard. All that had to happen was for me to play an enchantment to trigger Constellation on Humbler of Mortals, and then I went ahead and attacked for 147 trample.

Other games I used Kruphix to drop Archetype of Endurance while I had only 5 or 6 lands, other games I bestowed creatures on my flyers.

I will say, I did run into mana problems a couple times, but with two Font of Fertility cards, a Golden Hind, an Opaline Unicorn, and Kruphix, I figured 15 lands was perfect for what I was trying to do.

Forest  Culling Mark  Bronze Sable

There were also three cards I used out of my sideboard: Forest, Culling Mark, and Bronze Sable. With a 3/2 intimidate creature, I don't mind trading a Bronze Sable for that. Culling Mark was for getting rid of Brain Maggots or flyers with my ground creatures, and then the Forest to support the additional cards or if I felt like I needed one more land.

All in all, did pretty well with this deck based on the absurdity of everything (and Constellation did great, I just didn't think about all the enchantments out there to be used in limited).
