Artist of the Week: Aleksi Briclot

This week, we are featuring a popular Magic artist who has been creating art for the game since October of 2004 when Champions of Kamigawa came out. What card was his art on first? A few hints:

1. Uncommon
2. Enchantment Aura, which at the time was called "Enchant Creature" at one time
3. Costs 3 mana
4. It was also in the Divine vs. Demonic duel deck

Know what it is? Well, let's look...

Oni Possession
That's right, Aleksi's first art is Oni Possession from Champions of Kamigawa. There were also several more cards from the time period with three cards from Betrayers of Kamigawa.

Horobi's Whisper  Aura Barbs  Flames of the Blood Hand

Aura Barbs is a useful card for a Modern burn deck's sideboard to be used against Bogles decks. Horobi's Whisper is a decent card for removal in dredge decks in Modern.

Of course, while those are Aleksi's first works provided for Magic, however the most well known are these:

Ajani Goldmane Jace Beleren Liliana Vess Chandra Nalaar Garruk Wildspeaker

That's right... The original planeswalkers were all done by Aleksi. There are also three other planeswalkers drawn by Aleksi:

Gideon Jura Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas Vraska the Unseen

He has also done four land arts which were found in Shards of Alara: 1 Swamp, 2 Mountains, and 1 Forest.

Swamp Mountain Mountain Forest

Aleksi has also had the opportunity to provide art for some other high-profile cards in Magic's recent history:

Venser, Shaper Savant Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre Thoughtseize
Angel of Serenity Primeval Titan Primordial Hydra

Additionally, we also have the pleasure of having a single Plane card from Planechase and it matches the basic lands too...

But now for the wallpaper this week. I'd like to introduce the Standard newcomer and the leader of the slivers on the plane of Shandalar, Sliver Hivelord:
