Artist of the Week: Dan Frazier

Looking back at some of the older Magic artists like Christopher Rush, I wanted to find some we don't get to see anymore, like Dan Frazier. You will probably recognize his art because it's really quite popular just like the Black Lotus done by Christopher Rush. Let's take a look...

Mox Pearl  Mox Sapphire  Mox Jet  Mox Ruby  Mox Emerald

That's right, the Moxen! Well, I left off one of the ones he did...

Mox Diamond

Yep, Mox Diamond too. Some other arts that Dan Frazier has done are the Ward cycle from Alpha through 4th Edition and Iron Star, one of the lucky charms from Alpha through 7th edition.

White Ward  Blue Ward  Black Ward
Red Ward  Green Ward  Iron Star

He also provided the art for some Unglued cards that poked fun at cards that he did the original art for like the original Moxen and Jester's Cap...

Jack-in-the-Mox  Jester's Cap  Jester's Sombrero

So, while there are many cards with art by Dan Frazier, the three most recent cards printed with his art are these:

Durkwood Baloth  Jhoira's Timebug  Swamp
Durkwood Baloth was originally printed in Time Spiral but was rereleased in Modern Masters, the most recent printing of Dan's artwork.

Dan was recently asked to reimagine his art for the Moxen, and that art has shown up in the art book, The Gathering. Clicking on the image below will take you to the purchase page where you can get a paperback copy for the low price of $25. I personally have a hardback copy that I purchased from Kickstarter and I'm very pleased with the book. It has amazing artwork from many original artists.

The Gathering: Reuniting Pioneering Artists of Magic: The Gathering

Sadly with artists from the beginning of Magic, not many wallpapers are available from the Mothership, and in Dan's case, there sadly are no wallpapers at all.
